We are excited to share the success of our first SeaTecHub Citizen Club event, organized by AKTI, held on Saturday, April 6th, in Argaka. This event was part of the first-ever Pop-up Talks, titled “Stories that Inspire.” It was inspiring to see citizens from seven neighboring local communities come together to discuss the blue economy, citizen science, and more!
AKTI’s Chairperson of the Board of Directors, Dr. Xenia I. Loizidou, was one of the four inspirational speakers at the event. Dr. Loizidou’s speech focused on the current perils to our ocean, the blue economy and opportunities for citizen science within it, through the lens of her own experiences.
Citizen Club Objectives:
The Citizen Club (CS Club) aims to empower citizen involvement in science and raise awareness of Blue Economy jobs. The CS Club works towards achieving common ground on how local knowledge can serve science. The goal is to design citizen science actions with high inclusion of fishermen, boaters, local businesses, and the rest of the local community.
Event Activities and Key Outcomes:
- Engaging Talks: Esteemed speakers shared personal stories, experiences, and knowledge about the blue economy and citizen science.
- Networking Opportunities: Attendees had the chance to meet and converse with people from neighboring communities, fostering connections and collaborations.
- Increased Awareness: Participants gained a deeper understanding of Blue Economy jobs and the importance of citizen science.
Stay tuned for more upcoming events!
