Little School of Sea Biodiversity – “Sea Beauties” 🐚🌊

As part of the SeaTecHub (STH) citizen engagement activities, we are happy to share a colourful snapshot from our last Little School of Sea Biodiversity before the summer break!

On Thursday, 5 June, within the framework of SeaTecHub, we organised another inspiring educational workshop at Centar za mlade Zadar – 20000 miles Society, in collaboration with Udruga Aurelia.

This edition of our STH citizen engagement series brought children closer to marine life through the theme:
“Sea Beauties” – the wonderful world of sea snails.

Diving into the world of sea snails

Our little explorers took a deep dive into the secrets of sea snails and discovered:

  • 🔍 What snails are, where they live, and what they eat

  • 🐚 Why some snails have a “house” (shell) and some don’t

  • 🎨 What makes snails so special

    • many are beautifully colourful,

    • some are almost transparent,

    • some are poisonous,

    • and, interestingly… they are all bisexual! 😮

Through these hands-on activities, SeaTecHub’s citizen engagement efforts help children connect science, curiosity, and environmental awareness from an early age.

From science to art: creating our own “sea beauties”

In the second part of the workshop, science smoothly turned into art.
Inspired by everything they had learned, our little playdough artists sculpted their very own sea snails – each with a unique mix of colours, shapes, and personality.

Some snails were shy and hidden in their shells, others were bold, bright, and ready to glide across the imaginary seabed – proof that creativity is alive and well in our young “researchers”!

Thank you & see you after the summer! 💙

A big thank you to everyone who joined us – for your joy, curiosity, and energy – and especially to our little explorers, who remind us how magical and important the sea is.

📅 We’ll be back in the fall with more SeaTecHub citizen engagement actions and new editions of the Little School of Sea Biodiversity.

Until then:
🌞 enjoy the summer,
🌊 explore the sea,
🐠 and don’t forget to share with us everything you discover!
