On October 26th, Paphos Harbour came alive with the energy and dedication of more than 300 volunteers, joining forces for the largest cleanup campaign held at this historic site! This impactful event, organized by the Cyprus Ports Authority in collaboration with AKTI, the American University of Beirut (AUB), Cyprus University of Technology (Τεχνολογικό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου), PAFOS FC, Αθλητικό Σωματείο Άτλαντας Πάφου, Cydive, and other local organizations, showcased the power of volunteerism and community action.
The Day in Numbers:
- 💪 300+ volunteers joined hands, including:
- 250 students from local universities and young athletes from sports academies
- 50 divers, fishermen, and water polo players who worked together to clear the harbor’s underwater and beach areas
- 🚛 Around two tons of waste were collected, including 67 car and truck tires and large metal scraps!
As part of the event, AKTI held the 2nd SeaTecHub Blue Café, a gathering for fishermen and divers to explore blue technologies that could enhance their work and discuss challenges they face in adopting these solutions. 💡🐟
This incredible day wouldn’t have been possible without each and every volunteer who contributed their time and effort to make Paphos Harbour a cleaner, healthier environment. Thank you to all who made a difference! 🌍 Let’s keep the momentum going—until next time!
