The celebrations of European Maritime Day in Cyprus concluded with great success in Larnaca, bringing together education, entertainment, and environmental awareness — all with the sea at heart. 🌍💙
Over the course of two special days, children were the focus of action-packed activities aimed at deepening their connection with the marine world and highlighting the importance of protecting it.
📅 Day 1: “Discover, Learn & Explore the Sea” – A Journey for Primary School Students
On May 30th, 2025, primary school pupils took part in a rich, hands-on learning experience centered on the wonders of the marine world. Organized by the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI) and the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute, the event aimed to cultivate curiosity and environmental awareness among the next generation.
Through engaging activities, students had the chance to:
1️⃣ “Swim” through a 3D underwater world using VR technology, meeting dolphins, whales, and prehistoric marine creatures 🐬
2️⃣ Join the Physics Decathlon, conducting experiments on buoyancy, flotation, and soap-powered boats 🚤
3️⃣ Become Marine Explorers, discovering underwater archaeology and learning to identify Mediterranean fish species 🏺
4️⃣ Explore the future through Marine Robotics, gaining insight into how technology helps us understand and protect our oceans 🤖🌊
📅 Day 2: “Children’s Sea Festival” – Fun, Learning, and Ocean Adventures for All
On May 31st, 2025, the celebrations continued with the festive Children’s Sea Festival, welcoming families, children, and ocean lovers of all ages. The day was filled with joyful learning and creative engagement with the sea:
🎭 Musical storytelling performance “Εδώ Μονάχα Μονάχους”
🌊 Interactive workshop “The Sea Around Us”
🧭 Virtual marine environment tour
🎣 Knowledge-based games for all ages
🎨 Painting, face painting & live music
🧑🔬 Creative environmental workshops
Both events raised awareness about the importance of marine protection, inspired young minds to connect with the sea, and encouraged everyone to see the ocean as a shared treasure worth preserving.
