Kids Think Blue: Engaging Young Minds in Marine Conservation

On 16th of May 2024, AKTI Research Center held the third Kids Think Blue event under SeaTecHub project, involving 33 enthusiastic students aged 8-9 and 3 dedicated teachers from Dali Elementary in Nicosia. This event aimed to educate and engage young minds in marine conservation through hands-on activities and discussions.

Third Kids Think Blue Event: Engaging Young Minds in Marine Conservation

On 16 May 2024, the AKTI Research Center held its third Kids Think Blue event, involving 33 enthusiastic students aged 8-9 and 3 dedicated teachers from Dali Elementary in Nicosia. This event aimed to educate and engage young minds in marine conservation through hands-on activities and discussions.

Activities:

  • On-Site Discussion: The event started with an informative discussion about marine litter, its sources, and its impact on marine life.
  • Beach Cleanup: Students, along with their teachers, conducted a beach cleanup. They diligently recorded the types and numbers of marine litter collected.
  • Data Recording: The collected data provided valuable insights into the most common types of marine litter found on the beach.
  • Post-Cleanup Discussion: The event concluded with a discussion on how to eliminate the main types of collected waste, encouraging students to think about sustainable practices.

Key Outcomes:

  • Awareness: Students gained a deeper understanding of the marine litter issue and its environmental impact.
  • Hands-On Experience: The beach cleanup activity provided a practical experience, reinforcing the importance of taking action to protect our environment.
